With Locally Hosted Blogs – it involves someone who can do technical stuff like FTP and who understands sending files over servers. Anybody can install a blog for you for around $25 ++. You can also use wordpress.org for a locally hosted blog. For Hosted Blogs – You have an option to use Blogger.com or WordPress.com

You log in to the websites, create a username and password, then you have a blog. It’s all for free, so you can have your own blog. WordPress is the easiest to use and is the most stable blog. Blogger and WordPress can also put your own domain them on your blog for around $10-$15 a year. So go ahead and start blogging.

WORDPRESS SETUP

Choose a theme. You scan through the themes you want, click on the theme and the button, and then your site becomes transformed into something more beautiful. Then you can easily change the theme instantaneously into a brand new look.

Add plugins. Plugins are additional features in your blog. WordPress has a nice content management system. The plugins enable you to manage pages, have social book marking and many more. You can search the plugin that you want in the social directory. Examples of plugins are counters and forms.

Arrange widgets. Widgets are the cubes (like navigation, etc.) used in WordPress. You usually have a widget column, or a sidebar. You can move the widgets around your blog, using dragging and dropping. It will change the look of your blog.

WORDPRESS THEMES

Vanilla Box (ex: Frugal and Thesis Themes)- These themes have good readability. Your blog needs to be readable. Your text block needs to be white or very light in color. You don’t want to slow down your readers when they view your blog because of your text appearance. Using themes like this can make you customize your header too, that will give your blog a personal touch.

2 Column- It’s more advisable to use a two column blog, one column for navigation/widgets and the other for body text. This is also based on readability. Usually, the text box is on the left hand side of the page, and the navigation box is on the right side. The more columns you have, the lower the response you get, since there is a tendency to confuse the readers.

12pt.Body Text- It is better to have the text size as 12 point, in black, or 16 pixels. Again, you want your text to be readable.

Akismet -This is pre-installed in WordPress, and you wouldn’t have to download this. Akismet keeps you from getting a lot of spam comments.

Sticky – It makes any post that you make stay on top of your blog, no matter how much entries you put and how much you update your blog.

WORDPRESS WIDGETS

The side bars –You can do a lot with your sidebars. You can add calendars, counters, forms and many more.

Don’t overdo it. – Use your widgets sparingly. Since there is a lot to do, you should choose which widgets to use so your blog won’t look like a mess. The contents of your blog should be in order.

Add HTML as text. –You can use photos and text blocks in HTML.
