Learning SEO (Search Engine Optimization), PPC (Pay Per Click), SMM (Social Media Marketing), E-mail marketing and Ezine Marketing will be the main points of discussion on my blog. Once again, the only goal is to provide my readers actionable, insightful information on what they can do to improve performance and sales via the Internet.
There are two schools of thought:
1) Internet marketing is nothing more than putting up a website, adding keywords and meta tags and wait for the traffic (visitors) to make a b-line to your site.
Second school of thought:
2) Online promotions require a technical and / or design background that is too difficult to learn and even tougher to master. Few people (or businesses) make any money on the Internet therefore not worth the time nor money.
So which one is true or closer to the truth as far as learning SEO is concerned? Of course neither…
SEO stands for search engine optimization and it refers to your ability to get FREE traffic to different pages of your business website. There are only two areas of SEO that any person must understand:
- On page SEO
- Off page SEO
Learning on page SEO is the easiest skill to develop and can greatly alter the rankings on your website. I will focus this blog post on on-page SEO. Remember the following terms:
- Title Tag
- URL formation
- Meta Description
- Meta kewords
- Internal Linking
If you can master the ability to work ALL these areas of on page SEO, you are better off than 80% of your competitors. I will be loading a how to video on learning on page SEO in the next few days. Please check back by early next week. In the mean time, go to Google and type in “Google keyword tool.” Put in the keyword or keywords that you believe a prospect would use to search for your product or service. Write the top 10 – 15 keywords that presumably fit your future client’s search criteria.
Keywords research is the foundation of everything Internet marketing so if you do this wrong, everything else will be a waste of time and money (see a similar theme here?).
It’s getting late so check back early next week.
